Dealing with difficult conversations

We recognise that difficult, complex or challenging conversations can be tough.  These conversations require preparation and often require courage as they do not always come easily. A difficult conversation should not be avoided, put off or delayed.

Difficult conversations are often around performance, conduct, pay, a clash of personalities or communication issues and are emotive and should be handled sensitively.

As a manager, it’s not uncommon to go into a conversation with the very best intentions, to then make a mistake that worsens the situation rather than resolves it.

If you are concerned about whether you have the skills to deal with difficult conversations, or are worried about whether what you are doing is right, fear not, Astraea Mediation can help you with this.

We are able to facilitate difficult conversations, enabling you to reach resolution without fear of doing something wrong.

Conflict Coaching

Astraea Mediation offers 1:1 conflict coaching to equip you with the skills to deal with difficult situations and mitigate, or resolve conflict.

The coaching sessions are confidential, action oriented and will use techniques to deal with your desired outcome or goal.  We will look at how far away from the goal you are now, any obstacles or limiting factors to achieving the desired outcome, any consequences, for example the cost to the business and accountability.

We will tailor a package based on your needs to equip you with skills to mitigate any future conflict, improve employee engagement, retention and workplace productivity.

Leadership Coaching

Our Leadership Coaching begins with a rapport session enabling us to determine if we are a good fit for one another.  Assuming that’s a yes, we would work in partnership, confidentially on a 1:1 basis.  You would determine the focus of the conversation, ideally aligned to the executive goals.

During our sessions we might work on topics such as specific areas of leadership development, assessment of leadership style, vision or in some cases specific skills development such as confidence, impact and influence and leading change.

These sessions also offer you an external support system that encourages you to deal with the challenges you might face when driving organisation change, particularly where there is conflict.
